December brings us colder temperatures, dark nights earlier, “holiday” music, and the most anticipated year-end compilation by DJ Earworm. The producer just released his 2013 United State of Pop Mashup, which features hits from Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Lorde, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, P!nk, Mackelmore and more all against a backdrop of Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child.”
Maybe I’m just not a lover of the current pop music landscape, but this mix seems more hollow than in previous years. The noticeable snub, Tegan and Sara’s “Closer,” which may not have dominated Billboard charts, but has been heard/used everywhere this year.
